MY SHOOTING MODE

The camera I am going to use is Canon 7D and these are the video shooting modes it allows,

  • 1920x1080 (Full HD): 30p/25p/24p

  • 1280x720 (HD) : 60p/50p

  • 640x480 (SD) : 60p/50p

With the research, I have done on frame rate and other shooting modes. I am going to shoot my film in the Manual setup and 1080p with 24 frames per second. The 1080p will give more details to my footage and the 24 fps will add a little motion blur to it making it more cinematic. I might increase the frames per second for a few shots that require slow motion in them.

However, I might not be able to follow the 180 degree shutter angle rule because most of my shoot takes place in the daylight and I have a lot of medium shots, and I am going to shoot those at a very shallow depth of field. Following the 180 degree shutter rule will make my footage overexposed and will also lose details because I have a set aperture to achieve the shallow depth of field and I cannot keep both the shutter and aperture fixed. However, I will alter the ISO levels and if it works with the light and location without the ND filter, I will abide by the 180 degree rule. I know I can use the ND filter and solve the over-exposure problem but these ND filters come very expensive and I cannot it for this project.
