Since I am working on a short film this year, the number of characters present in the story has increased. Last year I worked on the film opening task and had created only two characters, but since its whole story, I had to introduce more characters to the script. As mentioned before the story is based on the quote "Don't judge a book by its cover" and I had also mentioned the characters present in my blog on the script.

C H A R A C T E R S

  • Preethi - A college girl, in her late teens

  • The Beggar - A homeless person on the street

  • Rish - A friend of the girl

  • Lady Customer - A customer

  • Guy 1, Guy 2, Guy 3 - Three young adults

  • Kari - A gentleman in his early thirties

After analyzing similar short film on the same genre I learned that, movies which try to deliver a social message most of the time have a character who is either weak, struggling with something or is in some trouble. On the same side, they have a character just opposite to the weak character and mostly shown as the antagonist. Then the conflict is been introduced and the message is delivered through one of these main characters.

Similarly, even my story has characters who contrast each other in many ways but still, they are being brought together to create the conflict and hence deliver the message. Preethi and Vicky are the two main characters in my story, whose personalities contrast each other and the message is delivered through Vicky. The other characters are supporting characters in the film, who plays a part in delivering the concept of the story.

I have had a few of my friends in my mind for these characters while I was writing the script but then I had to convince them to take part in my film. So I went around and asked my friends, whoever I thought would be perfect for the role. For the supporting roles, I just told my other friends that I am making a short film and they were excited, and they rather asked me if there was any role for them. So finding actors for the roles was not difficult but while casting I made sure that they will be available and they suited the role.
