Finding locations according to the script is probably the most difficult part of Pre-production because first we need to find a place that suits the script and second we need to get permission and clear all other formalities. I have got good experience with locations and the challenges that come with it because last year when I did film opening, I found a location, did everything according to the location, and in the last minute had to deal with a lot of trouble because we thought it was abandoned land and no one would ask us and the next day I had to find a new location and then did my shoot there.

Since then before seeing a location and imagining my shoot there I confirm whether I will be able to shoot there or not. The script that I wrote has three different locations in it, both interior and exterior. Finding an interior location is not a problem but when it comes to the exterior there are a lot of problems. We need to make sure that we get the permission and clear all other formalities because you don't want someone coming and asking you to leave at the last minute.

  • Bedroom - A study table

  • Shop - A food hotel

  • Empty street - A road to the bus stop

For the first location, I have found a place that suits well with my expectations, and getting permission will not be a problem. I have decided to shoot the scenes of the first location on The banyan's campus. The banyan is an organization work provides shelter and health care to homeless mentally ill men and women. It has several branches across Tamil Nadu but I am going to shoot at their Kovalam branch because I live in Kovalam and it's close.

For the shop location, there is a retail shop next to my house and it has some space around it, which will allow me to shoot the flashback scene. I have asked the shop owner and got access to use the place.

For the empty street, I found a place right close to The Banyan organization in Kovalam. The road is empty most of the time except for a few vehicles that go by and that suits the environment I am looking for in the main scene. There will not be any permission issues at this location because I know the people around and hopefully no other issue arises because most parts of the short film take place at this location.

The map above is the stretch of the empty street location which takes us from The Banyan to the Bus Stop. Below are more pictures and a video of the empty street location.
